After spending the last 10 years in ministry in Las Vegas I cannot tell you how many times I have asked a person, “Are you a Christian? or How did you become a Christian?” And though I have heard many solid testimonies of God’s saving grace and genuine stories of Biblical conversion, I quite often hear rather unbiblical answers to these simple questions.
When we think of Jesus we think of a man who helped many. He healed the lame, fed the hungry and received the rejected. Then why would they kill him?
I suppose the issue of baptism has been so divisive within the church because of man’s proclivity toward tradition. We hear this most often in the phrase, “Well, that’s just how I was raised.” As if that is an authoritative argument. I propose that we ask with Paul, “What saith the Scripture?” (Rom. 4:3)
For three Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-8:00pm (Nov. 28, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12) we will be hosting a parenting seminar that will help each of us as we lead our children, nephews & nieces and grandchildren into the future. I and my wife stood amazed. Then I realised that the crest of Maybury Hill must be within range of the Martians’ Heat-Ray now that the college was cleared out of the way. At that I gripped my wife’s arm, and without ceremony ran her out into the road. Then I fetched out the servant, telling her I would go upstairs myself for the box she was clamouring for.
“We can’t possibly stay here,” I said; and as I spoke the firing reopened for a moment upon the common. “But where are we to go?” said my wife in terror. I thought perplexed. Then I remembered her cousins at Leatherhead.
Were this world an endless plain, and by sailing eastward we could for ever reach new distances, and discover sights more sweet and strange than any Cyclades or Islands of King Solomon, then there were promise in the voyage. But in pursuit of those far mysteries we dream of, or in tormented chase of that demon phantom that, some time or other, swims before all human hearts; while chasing such over this round globe, they either lead us on in barren mazes or midway leave us whelmed.
