Battling a Critical Spirit

Today’s Blog is a guest post from my wife, Heather. Enjoy! “Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give … Continue reading Battling a Critical Spirit

Why My 15-Year-Old Son Still Has a Flip-Phone

Jonathan is the kind of kid that will surely be a trendsetter. He is cool in demeanor, calm in disposition, and pretty good looking. What can I say…he looks just like his old man. This is not the only characteristic that we share. We also have a similar sense of humor, love the Vegas Golden Knights, share a passion for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and … Continue reading Why My 15-Year-Old Son Still Has a Flip-Phone

The Gospel According to the Little Mermaid

I have 3 little ones who are no longer little. This morning my son walked into school as a freshman in High School.  My little princess is now in middle school.  And my baby is in 3RD GRADE!  What is happening?  I glance up at the calendar on the wall and marvel how quickly the pages seem to turn.  October already?  Wasn’t it Easter just … Continue reading The Gospel According to the Little Mermaid

5 Keys to Making Wise Decisions

I recently had the great privilege of speaking to our Student Ministry (ages 12-18) at Southern Hills Baptist in Las Vegas. I shared several scriptures that I had learned at their age. These passages speak of wisdom and choices, and though I have not always been faithful to follow these important truths, they have guided me throughout my life and brought incredible blessings that I … Continue reading 5 Keys to Making Wise Decisions

Six Reasons Why I Don’t Drink

As a pastor in Las Vegas I teach that Christians ought abstain from all alcohol, however I do acknowledge that there is a valid argument on the other side.  All Christians understand that the Bible clearly condemns drunkenness but some suggest alcohol is moderation is acceptable.  Though in no way do I want to be a thief of grace as those in Colossians 2:21-22, I do believe it is important to bring up several reasons why the modern, american christian should not partake.

8 Tips for Teenagers

1 – Go to Youth Group – Hebrews 10:24-25

One of the greatest opportunities that are afforded to you right now is a church youth group.  I have been involved in several over the past few years.  While I was a teenager I was in Liberty Baptist Church’s youth group, while in college I ministered for 3 years in the Campus Church Youth Group and now we have a youth group in the church that I pastor at Southern Hills. shbaptist.com/teens What is amazing about youth group is that you have a youth pastor who loves you and prays for you.  There are amazing actives like Winter Retreat, Summer Camp and Youth Conference.  There is a spirit of love that encourages you to live right in a world that is encouraging you to live for yourself.

5 Tips for Mommy-less Days

Single Moms and Single Dads are my new Heroes! Really!!! I look around our congregation and I see these dear women and men who are doing it all by themselves!  They get the kids out the door to school, go to work everyday, many times to an underpaid & unappreciated position, pick up the kids from school, do the homework and then put them down for the night… ALONE!  Phew!  I’m tired just thinking about it.  For those of you who are single parents I have no suggestions (other than keep walking with Jesus) only admiration.
