Based on my last few blog posts (the attrition rate of Facebook friends & Twitter @joshteis (followers), I have decided to write a completely noncontroversial post. Just try and disagree, I dare you!
1. Snow is Cold
A fact I first learned at the age of 5. We drove up to Mt. Charleston to play in the white powdery stuff that covered our local mountains. TOO COLD! It’s true though! Once it warms it is no longer snow.
2. Wile E. Coyote Needs a Win
Most of us, at one time or another, kind of felt bad for the coyote. That cocky roadrunner escaped again and again. I always felt, at least just once, the coyote should be able to sit down to a nice meal of roasted potatoes and grilled roadrunner.
3. I Like Cheese
It’s true. I do. I like the soft stuff. I like the aged stuff. I like the stuff with holes in it. It’s weird. It’s a little nerdy, I know. You may not like cheese but you can’t argue the point that I do.
4. Pastors Like Corny Jokes
If you have been in church for any amount of time you will learn that ALL pastors like corny jokes. We may say that we don’t, but our sermons betray us. Deep in the heart of every pastor there is a special place for simple puns and silly jokes.
5. Jesus is Absolutely Wonderful
OK, I suppose that some will attempt to debate this point. However, if anyone does disagree on this point it is simply because they have never really met Jesus. Jesus is an amazing person for He is more than a simple man. He is God (John 1:1-14). He is humble (Philippians 2:5-11). He is merciful (John 8:10-11). He is satisfying (John 4:13-14). He is equally full of grace and truth (John 1:14). He is Messiah (Daniel 9:25-26). He is my friend (Luke 7:34). He is my Savior (I Timothy 4:10). My Shepherd (Psalm 23), my shield (Psalm 84:11), my brother (Romans 8:17), and my first love (Revelation 2:4) is what Jesus is to me. I suppose if you disagree with this, we really don’t have a lot in common.
However, I would suggest that you consider Jesus (Hebrews 12:3). If you do not yet know Jesus in a real way, you can. According to the Bible, God loves you (John 3:16). Though each of us are sinners (Romans 3:23), He sent His son to pay for our sins (Romans 5:8) by dying upon a cross. He was buried and 3 days later rose from the grave (I Cor. 15:3-4). He now sits in Heaven and offers the free gift of salvation to all who believe upon Him (Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9-13). If you would like to become a Christian today you can do so by simply believing in Christ as your Savior and praying to Him and asking for His forgiveness and salvation. By His grace He will save you (Ephesians 2:8-9). For more on this check out THIS VIDEO
Love you brother. Keep up the good work, and keep telling the truth. Jesus had a few leave his side for speaking truth, and His word says that if you do the same, you will too. Know that there are several who support you and are walking this relationship out with Christ day by day. It is good to know that there are others out there who have a fear of God that is bigger than the fear of men. Do not be weary in well doing.
Thanks Casey for the support. Thankful to be serving Jesus here in Las Vegas!
I agree with you whole heartedly pastor; but I feel that the human side of Jesus was also like us
I’m sure that Jesus liked cheese too and enjoyed a corny joke now and then and this is why I think he related to us in a way that no other God could. This is why I feel he loves us so much because he felt the way we do. Including temptation and all. And maybe this is why we can only reach his father through him.
What a wonderful reminder of the essential doctrine of the humanity of Jesus Christ. Jesus likely had favorite foods too. Interesting.
Really, ALL cheese?! That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! Now I am glad that you do not discriminate, but really they can’t all be right! You need to stand up and pick one… is it the holey cheese, the stinky, the creamy, the old? LOL
Glad you have a sense of humor and most of all that your bring the love of Jesus into all!
I, too, love cheese. I have yet to run into one that I absolutely dislike. However, I will admit that I have, in no way, consumed every type of cheese in the world; not only type, but brand. I put cheese on my mac and cheese. I add Parmesan to ramen noodles. I love cheese!
Ok Alex. You’re just too cheesy!
Gouda. I love Gouda, Alicia.
Smoked gouda yum
1. The coldness of snow is relative to some people. Since you reside in Las Vegas, you feel snow is “TOO COLD!” However, there are lots of people in Northern Russia who break up the ice on the water in order to enjoy a nice swim. Plus, there’s this guy: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4393377
2. Does the coyote need a win, or does he just need to realize that he has been defeated and should move on to enjoy other fine delicacies. Consider how much cash he spends at the ACME store. For that kind of money, he could hire a proper hunter (perhaps Mr. Fudd?), a butcher to locate the finest cuts of meat, and a chef to prepare the meal. At the very least, how about a different roadrunner?
touche – you are saying that cold is relative to ones climate conditioning
The 2nd part floored me. So funny. Yes, He and fudd needed to join forces and have a feast. Unless it was “Coywotte season”
Amen to it all…although I must say…I too like most cheese, but some are a little to bitter/sharp and/or stinky for me.
Love the sharp stuff. in small quantities though
oh and for the record… I too have not met a cheese I didn’t like.
Keep writing. I personally don’t agree with your post on halloween, but I’m glad you wrote it.
Having a blog assumes that 1) you have a strong opinion. 2) other people don’t and 3) you’re trying to convince them of your opinion. If you are not getting people’s dander up from time to time, you aren’t doing it right.
I’m not a regular reader of your blog, but I have enjoyed the posts I have read. Keep it up.
Thanks Ryan. It’s a nice thing that we don’t always have to agree on every minor issue. We can still be part of the loving family of God.
*golf clap*
Hysterical!!!!
I like you cheesy Jokes. They are clean and funny. What’s not to like. I absolutely agree Jesus is wonderful.
That makes two of us! Glad to have the support. 🙂 Love having you and your dear family at SHBC. I continue to pray for your struggle – You have been such an inspiration to many, Modesta.
pretty hard to argue with facts.
Blogs like this one just make us all the more homesick for Southern Hills!!
Oh, we miss you too. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!
Water freezes at 0c and boils at 100c.
That’s a change of 100C
Snow would be roughly 273c warmer than absolute zero.
That’s over twice the distance in temperature taking water from freezing to boiling.
I think snow is warm.
I have found that as I get older, I get a little less dogmatic, a little more open to reason, a little more ready to see opposing views.
God grant you the capacity to get there earlier than I did.
🙂
Chris – you seem to have a lot in common with my buddy Alex. See above
WRONG!! Snow can be so cold it’s hot! Ever heard of FREEZER BURN!? If something burns it must be hot! Ha! So there!
….end nonsensical ranting… 🙂
Keep writing Pastor Josh!
Hmmmm – illogical and irrational. I love it!
Some people would complain if they were hung with a new rope!!! Enjoy your posts. Rats enjoy cheese, too….jus’ sayin’ My favorite is hard cheddar, but close is feta on salads and bleu cheese dressing… I guess I am a rat, too. But one saved by grace. When you are past 75 you find more pleasure in small stuff and less to be contentious over. xoxo N
WOW – beautifully written Nancy. I truly respect your wisdom and sweet spirit. I’m thankful for the godly elders the Lord has brought into our church to be examples to young men like me.
-still learning, still growing
Stinking neo lib 🙂
Thanks Shaun – I haven’t been called that in… 6 minutes. 🙂
Oh my what a refreshing change of pace. Really enjoy this blog, although reading all the comments, one would think you wrote about why I love cheese. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of simple facts. Just yesterday Lester and I were blessed unexpectedly and once again were reminded that you cannotact out give God! That also is a fact that never ceases to amaze me
How true! God is the great giver and when we attempt to give to those most in need, He seems to return it again and again. God is good – always! Thankful for you and Lester at SHBC. Love your godly heart
I like most kinds of cheese, however some are too mildy and some are too moldly. Guess it just depends on the culture and age. – just like people! What am I saying! Got me. Guess maybe I have been in the cupboard too long. Time to go have a snack.
Mary, I don’t understand you but I do like you.
To my nonsensical friend! Cheers.
God has designed the coyote to get the slow or sick critter to keep the rest strong. Snow has many differing qualities, it’s said that the Inuits have over 50 words for snow. Being raised in a cold and snowy place I can clearly place about 7 kinds. It’s kind of like cheese. You have a powder that’s great for skiing. There’s one that’s perfect for making snowmen there’s one that comes down like big fluffy individual crystals. As for cheese, some are good on salad, some for baking, and some just for pigging out. For many uses I like the Dubliner that is cheapest at Sam’s club, it’s good for baking, good for sandwiches and great for just pigging out. Aren’t we grateful God has designed us each differently. And I hope you all know who is bigger, Mr Bigger or his baby?
Getting all scientific on me. Don’t do it Francis, you know I’m a simple man. See you tomorrow.
Enjoyed this!
