5 Things You Should Never Say

God has given us the incredible gift of speech yet there are certain things you should never allow to escape your lips.  If you do these fatal phrases will hurt you or those around you.

5.  I Quit

Don’t say it!  If you say it, you might believe it.  Don’t think it!  If you think it you might say it.  I’m not saying that there will never be a time where you will have to reevaluate your life and prioritize accordingly.  Of course this happens and, at times, you will have to quit something for the greater good.  What I am saying is that there are too many Christians who begin in confidence many good things and yet find themselves constantly unable to finish what they have started.  Remember, longevity is the key to success in any endeavor.

Wether you are attempting to play the Oboe or climb Kilimanjaro, have a successful marriage or start a new ministry you must remember that storms will arise and all that is required of you is to remain at the helm. I Corinthians 4:2

4.  Everybody Hates Me

You should never say this, because it’s not true.  It may be true that some people hate you.  It may even be true that many people hate you.  Encouraging, huh?  However, truth is truth.  But it is not true that “everybody” hates you.  My little Scarlett who is now four years old was recently told to leave a room because I was counseling a couple about their marriage.  She quickly turned around and walked out the door.  I excused myself to follow my daughter to make sure that she was not hurt.  Scarlett did not know that I was walking behind her as I heard her whisper, “Everybody hates me.”

After I reached her and comforted her I remember thinking, “the devil is amazing at lying to us when we are emotionally downtrodden.”  I Peter 5:8  Nobody hated Scarlett.  That little girl was being lied to by the father of lies.  You need to believe, and say to yourself, “I am loved God and others.”  Jeremiah 31:3, I John 4:10

3.  Nobody Cares

In our most discouraged moments we begin to feel and, if not careful, say this false statement.  We feel this way because we are overcome by fears, duties, responsibilities, failures and loneliness.  It’s interesting that the passage that speaks about the Devil as a roaring lion who seeks to devour the believer (I Peter 5:8) come immediately after verse 7 that states: Casting all your care upon him; forhe careth for you.

My dear friend, Satan has got you if you start believing that you are all alone and no one cares. Christ cares!  Perhaps it is that you feel that Christ does not care because you are not close enough to Christ to feel His tender care.  Then draw close to Him! James 4:8  Christ’s church cares!  Perhaps it is that you feel that Christ’s Church does not care because you have not been close enough to Christ’s Church to feel their tender care.  Then draw close to the church and learn what it is to have your burdens lifted.  Galatians 6:2

 2.  It’s Impossible

No, it’s not!  Have we forgotten what the angel said to Mary in Luke 1:37?  “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”  NOTHING!  Where are the souls who still believe in miracles?  Where are the followers of Paul who boldly proclaim with that faithful apostle, “I can do all things though Christ.”  Philippians 4:13  

When you are with Christ, called by Christ and empowered by Christ I Thessalonians 5:24 will be true in your life! “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”  Don’t give into the negative thinking of the devil and his destructive demons.  For if they can defeat you in the mind they will not have to defeat you in the flesh.  Proverbs 23:7

and the #1 thing that you should never say…

1.  Never

Cliche?  I know, and I’m sorry.  However, the older I get the more convinced I am that our Sovereign Lord has a sense of humor and man’s sinful heart has no end of depravity.  For the person who says they will never serve the Lord in “such and such” way, be careful, the Lord may change your heart and lead you in that direction.  You may find yourself sharing the gospel to dozens of inmates and loving every moment.  You may find yourself serving meals to the homeless and relishing in the opportunity to live out Matthew 25:40.  My dear friend, never say never!

For the person who is continually sickened by the sin of others and secretly prides himself in his own personal holiness, be careful.  Proverbs 16:18  Oh, how sure was Peter when he proclaimed, “Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended…Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee.”  Instead, let us pray for mercy and grace.  As the Lord said in Luke 11, “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”  A good fear of sin is a healthy thing.
