I guess I’m a foodie. Sure, I like food. But I don’t think that makes me a foodie.
A foodie is one that likes a great variety of food and seeks out new and interesting food experiences. That’s me! I like trying new things. If you’re like me you might be interested in my list of Top Ten List of Best Places to eat in Las Vegas!
10. Roberto’s Taco Shop (Don Tortaco)
If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price you have got to try this fast casual option. The burritos are huge and the guacamole is top shelf.
9. Pin Kaow
This is my favorite Asian cuisine restaurant in town. Of the 3 locations in Las Vegas, Heather and I like the one at 7835 S. Rainbow. Their Chicken Pad Thai is amazing and the staff is very attentive.
8. Mac Shack
This neat little place on Warm Springs (just west of Durango) just came on our radar. What Subway is for sandwiches and Chipotle is for Mexican food, Mac Shack is for Italian food. You pick the type of pasta, add the sauce, include some ingredients and then finally pick some bread.
7. Jack-in-the-Box
Don’t laugh at me! I’m telling you! There is nothing more gratifying to the junk food beast that lies within than a quick stop by the “box” to pick up some $.99 tacos. Correction – that’s actually 2 for $.99. Yeah… that’s right.
6. Spaghetti Western
Heather and I just found this place in the Southern Highlands shopping center on Decatur and Cactus. This 30 seat authentic Italian restaurant reminds us of the cafe’s in Rome. Every time we have been there the owner comes out to greet and welcome us. He just moved here from northern Italy and less than 2 months ago opened his American, storefront dream.
5. Ohjah
If you like Japanese food you like like Ohjah. If you like sushi you will love Ohjah. This is the place for you if you are looking to eat something strait from the sea.
4. Maggiano’s
On most special occasions, like our anniversary or Valentines Day, Heather will always pick the same location. Located in the Fashion Show Mall, Maggianos is a dining destination. Though a little pricy the high level of service, quality of food, and incredible ambience make every penny worth it.
3. The Outback
I know it’s a chain – I don’t care. I still think they are the best place to get a good steak and wedge salad.
2. Joe’s New York Pizza
Okay! Seriously! You have got to try out this pizzeria on L.V.B. in front of the Las Vegas Outlets. If you like great New York pizza from true New Yorkers this is your place. Beware – don’t eat your pizza with a knife and fork.
1. Food Truck Sunday at Southern Hills
On Sunday, February 9 we are hosting a very cool event at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Gourmet Food Trucks from around the city will be exclusively at Southern Hills Baptist Church for the entire morning and afternoon. This is a foodies dream come true. Everyone who attends 1 of the 3 services (8:00a, 9:45a, 11:30a) will receive a $4 voucher to spend at any one of the food trucks. For a family of 5 that means $20 off of Sunday’s lunch. You can get your vouchers that morning at Southern Hills. If you are a member of the church – bring your friends! If you are not a member of the church you are still invited to come and participate in this very exciting event. P.S. I did not mention In-N-Out because those heavenly hamburgers do not belong on any lowly list. They transcend. Animal Style all the way!

If interested, try The Original Sunrise Cafe (8975 S Eastern Ave #5, Las Vegas, NV 89123) or Mr. Mama’s (5580 S Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89118).
Mr. Mama’s is closer to our side of town but the Original Sunrise is definitely worth the drive!

Some of your selections are unique to Vegas, so I can’t comment on those, but you are spot on with Outback. Most consistent prime rib you will get anywhere. I have to admit, I’m tempted to tune out your selections due to the inclusion of Jack in the Box – we’ll have to agree to disagree 🙂 Love you my friend!

February 7, 2014 at 12:05 pmI do not like In and Out at all….I have been completely spoiled by Swenson’s in Akron, Ohio. This burger was featured on Oprah’s best burgers in the USA too. Once you have eaten them….no other burger even comes close. I do like the Christian aspect though about In and Out Burgers. I like Macaroni Grill too.

February 7, 2014 at 12:07 pmWe bothe like the Eggplant Parmesian at the Bootlegger. The breakfast place to be is the T-Bird right down the street from church. We have the steak and eggs most Sundays after the 8 am service. The best.

February 7, 2014 at 12:07 pmWe drive by Spaghetti Western every day and I’ve been wondering if it’s any good. Now it looks as though we’re going to have to try it. (Can you say date night? Oh yeah!) I told my husband that after we went to Italy, no Italian food in the states can compare. Although, we do like Maggiano’s and Buca Di Beppo.
As far as SHBC Food Truck Sunday… I KNOW we are going to enjoy it! We can’t wait! In fact, my son keeps asking us if today is the day. Getting a little old. Wish it were Sunday already!

February 7, 2014 at 1:00 pmIf you haven’t tried Capriotti’s yet, it’s a must! It’s a sub place, but they have this one…this amazing one…The Bobbie. Homemade Turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo. Even better yet, their sandwiches come in 9 inch and 20 inch. Not gonna lie, I can take down a whole 20 inch bobbie by myself. It’s that good.

I’ve heard so many great things about Hot n Juicy! We have still never been there. Heather’s not a big seafood fan but I love it. I will have to slip away and go there sometime with one of the guys from the church.

February 7, 2014 at 1:16 pmFor the best Texican food in the valley, the nod goes to Nacho Daddy (9925 S Eastern Ave, Henderson). High quality all the way around – American/Texican, etc. but unbelievable, mind-boggling stacks of nachos are their specialty. Reasonably priced also. (AND it is right in front of a Lowes!)
In addition, as a transplanted Akronite, I second without reserve Laneita’s assessment of Swenson’s. No doubt about it. Laneita clearly didn’t want to “rub it in”. You can tell. She didn’t mention Swenson’s malts and sundaes….

February 7, 2014 at 3:33 pmWell, I wouldn’t have any of your ten on my list, but hey that’s what foodies (including me) do! I’m not sure I can think of ten but here goes.
1.Texas de Brazil This place is not cheap but not only all the meat you can eat of many kinds but what I consider the best salad bar in Las Vegas, at no extra charge. AND if you go onto their website you get a twofer on your birthday! There are at the north end of Town Center Mall
2. The Egg works. Best place for breakfast or brunch. What an amazing menu So many entries they had to print it on newspaper stock, otherwise it’d be too heavy to hold. Several locations I go to the one on Rainbow just south of the 215
3. The Black Bear. This is old fashioned man food. Everything from breaded veal cutlets to hamburgers too big to eat. On Tropicana and Jones
4. Mimi’s . OK pastor I know you don’t like it, but the one in the Arroyo Mall has really good food, good service.
5. Any Olive Garden for lunch Soup and Salad, can’t beat the taste or the price!
6. There is a Japanese restaurant at Town Center, whose name I can’t remember but it’s great
7. There’s a little Thai restaurant in the Von’s shopping complex at Dorango and Warm Springs. Really great curry dishes
8. Appleby’s has a great menu. Most locations are near malls so you can shop till you drop then stop in at Apppleby’s and I’m sure you’ll find something tempting on the menu.
9. Famous Daves, Not only great BBQ, They actually had FREE meals for vets on Veterans Day, Not twofers, just free 3 of us veterans from the church ate there this year. This is also a great place for a biggish crowd of friends.
10. Where ever one of my friends wan’t to treat me.
I’m expecting great things from the food truck and thinking about getting some stuff perhaps with some others from church and having a eat and chin wag or something, whatever comes to mind.
