5 Things for which to be Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving!  My prayer is that this post finds you in the spirit of the season.  If you are having a difficult time trying to count your blessings this holiday season, let me help.

 5.  The Holiday Itself

I love thanksgiving day!  I love the parade that my wife and I watch with the kids first thing in the morning.  I love gathering with friends and family to feast upon the national delicacy of Turkey and cranberry sauce.  This year my brother and I will enjoy watching on TV the Cowboys pummel the Redskins at the incredible Cowboy Stadium.  However, this year your holiday may not look so bright as in years past.  Perhaps you have to go into work or you can’t get home for the holiday.  Whatever situation you find yourself in on Thursday, take time to count your blessings and choose to be thankful and spend the day with your Lord Jesus.

4.  Only 32 Days until Christmas

Black Friday is upon us!  Buy the paper, circle the deals, get up early and don’t get trampled.  Only a month left to commercialize the season.  The truth is, I love it all.  There is just something wonderful about saving money, finding the perfect gift, wrapping it up and giving it to the one you love.  I also love how our church services begin to be more festive with Christmas decorations and Christmas Carols sung by the choir.  Heather’s already prepping our radio dial for 106.5.

 3.  Twinkies Live On

That’s right folks.  You thought you had eaten your last Twinkie when Hostess corporation filed for bankruptcy last week but reports have been made that the Twinkie brand will be purchased by another company and we may still be able to get our favorite faux-cake with hydrogenated vegetable oil creme filling that we have all grown to love.

(http://tinyurl.com/boc8sqx) If you can’t be thankful for anything, be thankful for Twinkies.

 2.  Your Home Church

Take time today to thank the Lord for your church!  If God has blessed you with a church family that you are able to connect with, grow with, serve with and share your faith with, you have truly been blessed.  I am so very thankful for Southern Hills!  They are a passionate group of people who love the Lord and their community.  Every time I come to church I am uplifted and refreshed. I truly am thankful for Southern Hills.

 1.  The Sacrifice of Jesus Christ

His sacrifice upon the cross paid for our sins.  This is amazing because the Bible teaches that after death is judgment and I know that without the sacrifice of Christ to pay for my sins I would truly be damned at that judgment.  He bore my sins and yours, and for those who will look to Him, He will provide salvation.  I am thankful for the sacrifice of my dear Lord and Savior – Jesus Chirst.

    I am so very thankful for God giving us Southern Hills as our home away from home. It is awesome to be spending the holiday with our church family. We have been truly blessed each place God has put us and we look forward to everything He has in store for us. Can’t believe just 3 short years ago Larry McCoy talked us in to trying his church. Thanks!

    I am thankful that He loves me; for His daily presence in my life; for His faithfulness and goodness.

    I am thankful for
    – Christ patience and suffering while I lived my life my way until finally accepting His invitation to be His;
    – finding SHBC and a wonderful Pastor who is not afraid to say it like it is, whether politically correct or not – it’s biblical;
    – my wonderful husband who works so hard to provide for his family; and who supports and encourages me and the kids going to church even though he doesn’t (yet) know Chris or go to church with us except special occasions;
    – my two wonderful kids who can have me alternating between my heart melting in it’s love for them or nearly pulling my hair out; but regardless are the result of answered prayer for children and true blessing to both my husband and myself;
    – my extended family and friends even though I don’t see most of them near enough; but thanks to FB and other technology we’re able to stay in touch and keep up to date with each other
    – each of our 4 legged ‘children’ – 2 dogs, 3 cats and a leopard gecko! I am blessed every day with one or all of them following me around like the Pied Piper with their love and company
