I Love Preaching

Being a pastor I am surrounded by preachers and have the opportunity to go to church all of the time, but I seldom have the opportunity to sit down in a church and listen to another brother preach.  That is why I am so excited about the upcoming Bible Conference at Southern Hills!  It takes place January 27-29 and it will be a blast. We have invited 4 preachers from across the country who will be bringing the Word of God.

Preparing to Pray

This is a guest post from my father Dr. David Teis. Dr. Teis has been the pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Las Vegas for over 30 years. His wisdom and insight is a tremendous help to me and I pray it will be to you as well. Check out his blog at davidteis.com

The best book I have ever read personally on the subject of prayer is a book by John R. Rice called Prayer Asking and Receiving. Reading that book changed my prayer life. I have read it several times and it always makes an impact on me. The main point is that prayer is asking. It is not thanksgiving. It is not worship. It is not praise. It is not adoration. Prayer is asking. That is what the word means. God wants us to come to Him and ask Him for things.

5 Tips for Mommy-less Days

Single Moms and Single Dads are my new Heroes! Really!!! I look around our congregation and I see these dear women and men who are doing it all by themselves!  They get the kids out the door to school, go to work everyday, many times to an underpaid & unappreciated position, pick up the kids from school, do the homework and then put them down for the night… ALONE!  Phew!  I’m tired just thinking about it.  For those of you who are single parents I have no suggestions (other than keep walking with Jesus) only admiration.

Date Your Mate – Part 5

In previous posts we defined the date, balanced the budget, bagged the babysitter and customized the categories. Today we will see essential elements to any date. All dates are not the same but all good dates will include certain elements!

1.  Romance

Ahhhh, candle light… freshly cut roses… and Lionel Richie playing in the background.  OK, maybe Lionel Richie is not your thing, but nonetheless, romance is an essential element in Dating.  From our earliest days we are conditioned to desire romantic love, just re-watch any Disney movie and you’ll see.  Yet it’s not just the ladies.  I cannot tell you how many times I have had men complain to me during marriage counseling that their was “cold” romantically.  Go to a nice restaurant and spend time looking into each other’s eyes.  Complement your love on their clothing, smile or general appearance.  You may think that this is a bit silly and unnecessary but I challenge you to read the Song of Solomon in the Bible and see how many specific compliments were given from man to wife and from wife to man. romance, setting the mood is important.
