Before You Break

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

What does the straw look like? How heavy does it actually have to be to break the camel’s back? I suppose the camel was already overloaded to such a point that the last straw was simply too heavy for him to continue.

What is your breaking point? Can you handle more than you have now? Then why don’t you accept another invitation? Go ahead and swipe the card one more time. Agree to one more obligation. Like a foolish teenager playing Russian Roulette, we continue to add to our lives without ever subtracting.

Jesus never intended this. Jesus looked with compassion upon those who were oppressed by the Sadducees, bullied by the Pharisees, and subjugated by the Romans. Oh, how He desired to ease their burden and lighten their load.

Signs of Danger

Dr. Richard Swenson outlines three warning signs that you may be close to an absolute breaking point in his book MARGIN. 1. Psychological Symptoms – can include depression, withdrawal, apathy, mental fatigue, negative thinking, anxiety, anger, impatience, forgetfulness, and confusion. 2. Physical Symptoms – can include rapid pulse, palpitations, ulcers, irritable bowel, weight change, rashes, and insomnia. 3. Behavioral Symptoms – can include irritation with friends and colleagues, outbursts of temper, sudden tears, changes in eating or sleeping patterns or in the sexual drive, inappropriate laughter, compulsive shopping, and self-medicating. If you are seeing these symptoms, you may be headed for burnout. Be on the lookout for the straw!

Sign from God

Tired? Stressed? Overwhelmed and coming undone? Do you feel like one more problem might be the end of you? This sermon series is the sign from God for which you’ve been looking. This small group session is what you need to relieve your burdens and start loving life once again. This 30-Day Devotional is a gift from God to you!

Jesus never intended you to live a life under the weight of heavy burdens. He is the good shepherd of John 10 and the every present shepherd of Psalm 23. He leads His sheep beside still waters, He brings restoration to their souls, and even when they are led into the dark valley – the shepherd is always nigh.

Make a decision now that you will read these 30 devotionals, attend your small group, and truly hear the next 4 Sunday sermons.
