Invite Everyone

This Sunday, August 4th, Southern Hills will be celebrating our 9 year anniversary as a church. Obviously we are very excited! Every member will want to be in attendance for this historic sunday but something more than mere attendance ought to be on our mind. What is it? Evangelism! Our theme for the sunday is Be Our Guest. And I want each of our members to Invite at least three people to this important service. Here are four ideas that might help:

1. Invite Your Neighbor
While you are returning the ladder you borrowed to put up Christmas lights you can bring them an invitation to the special service. This is simple to do. Let me explain. Take the card, tract, invite, whatever in your left hand and knock on the door with your right hand. When they come to the door don’t run away. Smile and say, “I’d like to invite you to ‘by my guest’ at our church’s anniversary service this sunday. Would you like to come?” Now give them the card. Simple, right? Now, turn around and go home. And don’t forget to leave the ladder.

2. Invite Your Co-Worker
You don’t want things to get weird at work, right? So let’s make sure this goes down well. Walk up to your co-worker and say, “Do you know that I go to church?” Regardless of their response say, “It would be great if you’d come with me to our anniversary service this sunday.” Hand them the card. Then promise, “If you come I’ll even buy your lunch.” If you are completely out of money then forget your wallet or purse at home and make them pay. 🙂

3. Invite Your Family Member
That person that lives with you that doesn’t come, that person that is visiting in town, that person who used to pin you down and make you smell his socks – that person needs Jesus! Text them right away. NOW! Stop reading and do it! The text should read, “You know that new church I’ve been going to… we’re having a big celebration to celebrate our 9th anniversary this sunday… will you be my guest?” When they reply, “I’m busy.” Text them back and say, “You are dead to me.” (OK – I’m kidding… don’t do that)

4. Invite a Stranger
Take some of these cards and invitations at the church (you can stop by and get more anytime this week) and give them out at the drive-through, restaurants, gas stations, give them to your doctor, gardner, bookie. Invite everyone and anyone you come across.

5. Invite Via Social Media
Copy and paste the following: http://www.shbaptist.com/be-our-guest.html
Take that URL and post it in your Facebook account, twitter feed email it to friends. You can even private message someone the Lord may put on your heart. This will give them the opportunity to make a decision about coming that sunday in the privacy of their own home.

Bible on DVD
For every 1st time guest in attendance on that sunday we will be giving out “The Bible on DVD.” History channel’s epic ministries that garnered so much attention this past fall will be presented to each family unit that will be in attendance that sunday for the 1st time. This is a $60 value absolutely free for anyone you bring. This is a great way to get your friend interested in the things of God through their first sunday at Southern Hills and a DVD of Bible stories to go home with them.

Invite Everyone and we’ll see you on Anniversary sunday at 8:00am, 9:45am, or 11:30am!

Pastor, Joe and I were reading through your blog posts and I just had to comment on this one. I know it’s late but who cares. Your sense of humor is one of the reasons that you are THE BEST pastor in Las Vegas. You are accurate, honest, real and absolutely hilarious. We can’t believe there were not more posts about your humor. Too many pastors seem to be so serios and structured, almost afraid to loosen up a bit. But God sure has a sense of humor, we should too! You are always biblical and your preaching is always convicting and educational, but at the same time – You ALWAYS make church fun. You are the best pastor we have ever listened to. Anyway – We hope this makes you smile today 🙂 We love you.
